Amman

After a long flight with a three hour stop over in Abu Dhabi and four movies later we arrived in Amman about midday yesterday (Good Friday). We were met at the aiport by a very nice representative from our tour company, Exodus, who whisked us through the visa process and out of the airport in about 30 minutes!!

Our hotel is about 10 minutes by taxi from the down town centre and we have spent the last day and a half wandering the markets, visiting a Roman amphitheatre and fountain, the huge Al-Hussain mosque and the wonderful Jordan museum plus devouring lots of yummy food!!

The embroidered gowns and headresses in the market are amazing!

The olives and spices stalls are so colourful and the baba ghanoush and hummous are unbelievably good!

  1. Oh Irene! Those dresses look like something out of the Powerhouse Museum! But I think they are in a stall...? And what about the smells Irene? You didn't tell us how the place smelled! (The spices must have been wonderful!) Jan

  2. The smells were amazing, Jan! There are many small shops selling these embroidered Palestinian gowns - some costing as much as $1,000!
